William served 31 years with the New York City Police Department, advancing through a series of increasingly responsible roles. He began his career in 1988 as a Police Officer in the 102nd Precinct, where he patrolled by car, bicycle, and on foot, worked closely with school counselors and administrators on juvenile matters, mediated domestic disturbances, and protected victims from harm. In 2002 he was assigned as a Detective, serving on the Felony/Misdemeanor Warrants Team and the I-Card Apprehension Team, executing active warrants, tracking parole and probation absconders, and supporting detective squads in the pursuit of suspects in major crimes. Promoted to Sergeant in 2006, he led and supervised a squad of 30 officers, evaluated their daily performance, trained new and developing recruits, and advised Police Command staff on the effectiveness of departmental strategies and initiatives until his retirement in 2019.
Since 2019, William has served as a Security Aide for the Valley Stream School District, where he patrols and inspects school premises, manages building access, monitors surveillance systems, and reports and responds to suspicious activity — hands-on experience that directly informs his leadership of Upfront's school security programs. He has also worked with several private security firms, providing corporate event and private security as well as personal protection and secure transportation for celebrities and corporate executives.
William holds certifications across a wide range of security and tactical disciplines, including Active Shooter Response, Crowd Control, Counter Surveillance, Facial Recognition, Verbal Judo, TASER, COBRA (Weapons of Mass Destruction), Facial Recognition, CPR/AED, and Basic First Aid.
