John joined the NYPD in 2002, beginning his career on uniformed and plainclothes patrol in Patrol Borough Queens South, where he responded to a wide range of calls for service and conducted proactive policing to preserve the peace. From 2007 to 2014, he transitioned into Narcotics Borough Queens, conducting undercover investigations ranging from short- to long-term cases, recruiting and managing confidential informants, developing tactical plans, executing search warrants, and carrying out prisoner apprehensions.
Promoted within the Narcotics Borough Queens Major Case Unit from 2014 to 2017, John investigated international narcotics trafficking organizations and managed personnel on long-term investigations — leading cases that culminated in the recovery of over 600 kilograms of cocaine and heroin, dozens of firearms, and more than one million dollars seized while dismantling narcotics cartels. He also served as an instructor for the Organized Crime Control Bureau Investigators Course, teaching Title III investigations and electronic surveillance.
From 2017 to 2019, he was assigned to the NY Drug Enforcement Task Force alongside the DEA and New York State Police, identifying international trafficking and money laundering organizations, conducting Title III and electronic surveillance investigations, and protecting witnesses for high-level international narcotics trials. Since 2019, he has worked Auto Crime Major Case as a Detective 2nd Grade, leading high-level auto theft and fraud investigations jointly assigned with the Department of Homeland Security – Border Security Team, targeting international narcotics trafficking, stolen vehicle exportation, and money laundering through extensive physical and electronic surveillance, pen registers, and GPS tracking.
A decorated officer, John is an Honor Legion member and the recipient of multiple Commendation Medals, numerous Meritorious Police Duty Medals, and an Investigator Citation from the New York Shields. His specialized training includes Executive Protection, Homicide and Criminal Investigations, Auto Theft and HIDTA Investigations, Surveillance, Active Shooter Preparedness, Task Force Officer School, and CPR/Trauma Injury certification.
